Catherine Washburn Medical Association
The Catherine Washburn Medical Association was formed in 1971 in memory of Catherine Washburn, a Lopez resident who was known for her generous community support.
CWMA began by raising funds for the original clinic building, which was completed in 1974. It has continued to provide the financial support for several expansions and much needed state-of-the-art equipment.
CWMA owns & maintains the clinic building & the property it sits on. CWMA also owns the majority of the medical equipment and willingly purchases new equipment as needed. CWMA’s role is now changing and expanding as the healthcare scenario on Lopez changes and evolves. CWMA helped the clinic navigate through the changes resulting in a relationship with UW Medicine and the formation of the Lopez Island Hospital District. It also provides ongoing support for Lopez Island Physical Therapy. Through generous donations and memberships in our organization, CWMA is strong and will continue to support Lopez Island’s medical needs.
