Sam Rich, PA-C is a nationally board certified Physician Associate (Assistant). He joined the Lopez Clinic in December 2023. As a primary care provider, his patients receive comprehensive and compassionate care for acute and chronic health problems. PA Rich believes in building strong relationships based on trust, open communication, and mutual respect following a holistic approach to healthcare. He also enjoys doing office procedures such as, knee injections, shoulder injections, wound care and laceration repairs.
PA Rich graduated from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine with a Master’s Degree and received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colorado. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of PAs and a member of the Washington Academy of PAs. In addition to his tenure with the clinic as a primary care provider, he also has experience in Orthopedic Surgery which included initial assessment/diagnosis of joint and back pain, assisting in the operating room, and caring for patients after surgery.
As a PA, he can; diagnose conditions, order and interpret lab/imaging tests, provide treatment including writing prescriptions, consulting and referring to specialist as needed, etc. In a family medicine practice, there is no difference between what a PA and physician are capable of providing and there is no dependence on a physician when making clinical decisions.
Sam is recently married, his wife Brianna introduced him to the San Juan Islands several years ago and they have dreamed of living here full time ever since. They have a golden retriever named Zeus and enjoy spending time cooking, hiking, backpacking, skiing, and generally enjoying the natural beauty of the northwest.
